Economics: Extra Credit Questions

  • Goes with readings on expanding waistlines
  • Counts toward HW/CW
  • Due Monday

  1. Draw a graph that shows how the market for food has encouraged people to consume more.  Explain your graph.
  2. When it comes to calorie intake, the author considers "time cost" rather than dollar cost.  Set up a supply and demand graph with time, not dollars, on the Y-axis.  Then show how changes in food processing technology shits the curve(s).
  3. What is the opportunity cost for a woman to stay home and cook and clean for her family?
  4. Is it possible that the fall in the price of automobiles during the past 60 years has made Americans worse off?  Use the author's logic about food costs to answer and explain.
